Week 9, we’re doing FINE- THIS is body language!

Sechelt

Sechelt can I just say how CRAZY PROUD I am of you guys this week????  Your enthusiasm for each other, for wanting to be the best you can and for this class just blew me away.

We started off with SARA bringing wonderful delectables baked my her mother Meriem @ Nougatine! (orders@nougatine.ca)
I wish I had been quick enough to get pictures before we scarfed them all down (and the brownies were MY favourite) but I did manage to snap a few pics of these lovely light little cakes of all different flavours!

What a way to start the night! Thanks Nougatine!

What a way to start the night! Thanks Nougatine!

Daphne had her first shot at steering the ship as our MC tonight and as the night went on, she got better and better, remembering to lead the audience in clapping and improving EVERY time she introduced a speech!  SO PROUD of you Daphne!

We also had this insane Improv Game called “Ninja” that had everyone on the floor laughing- literally!  Good one Coen!

Meaghan was a DOUBLE WINNER tonight taking both Table Topics AND Word of the Day, which by the way was a really good one Josh, PUGNACIOUS.

We had three really impressive speeches tonight from three impressive girls: Rathlin, who told us all about her adventurous and daring grandmother who jumped out of a jeep in front of a pride of lions as a kid, Brook, who continues to push herself out of her comfort zone to interview a complete STRANGER, and perhaps most impressive tonight was HAZEL who put a LOT of effort into her first written speech.  It was as warm and wonderful and as charming as she is.  All it was missing was a unicorn.  So here’s one for you Hazel.  <3

It was so great that so many of you wanted to do presentations next week and I’m SURE the fact that I pointed out that doing the BONUS presentations in your STRIVE Handbook For Awesomeness mean you get a bag of Skittles!

Paula Howley, Head start public speaking for kids teens children youth speeches program Toastmasters

mmmm….skittles…..

Because almost everyone has done almost every role, I’m going to assign roles for a bit to make sure everyone gets a chance to do everything.  Heads up!  The next few weeks will be exploring our THIRD presentations, we WILL be having a winter break party on December 14 (but that is 4 weeks away) and taking 2 weeks off for winter break!

When we come back from break, we are going to start prepping for our FIRST PRESENTATION NIGHT which will be on the evening of January 25 at 6:00, not 5:00.  Are you excited?  I know I am!!!!

Gibsons!

So this week was definitely better than last week with the small changes we made.  Maria gave a really warm and telling speech about her grandma and Simon’s enthusiasm for giving presentations is hitting me like a happy tsunami!

Jonah brought in a game that had everyone working in pairs trying to guess what gifts they got and that was a great change of pace.  Paula Howley, Head Start Public Speaking For Kids,

I have to tell you though, we are really missing our girls Bella and Georgia!

I thought you guys did a really solid job of pushing through difficult emotions in the body language challenge- keep pushing, that is how awesomeness happens!

Also very happy at the new enthusiasm for speaking because of the possibility of SKITTLES.  Amazing what some sugar can do for an attitude!  Can’t wait to see what you guys do!

Also, same thing for you Gibsons- because almost everyone has done almost every role, I’m going to assign roles for a bit to make sure everyone gets a chance to do everything.  Heads up!  The next few weeks will be exploring our THIRD presentations, we WILL be having a winter break party on December 15 (but that is 4 weeks away) and taking 2 weeks off for winter break!

Paula Howley, Head Start Public Speaking For Kids,

When we come back from break, we are going to start prepping for our FIRST PRESENTATION NIGHT which will be on the evening of January 26 at  5:00.

I know some of you are a little freaked out about this and I totally GET that.  I STILL get nervous at big presentations but that’s GOOD.  We’re going to learn how to channel that energy and I PROMISE you will feel like a rock star after you are finished.  I know you can do it guys.  I know it.
