It was a speech marathon this week and what a treat! We had 3 speeches in Sechelt and 4 in Gibsons including an impromptu speech from Bridget! It is so exciting watching you kids get better and better!
In Sechelt our MC was Nadia who picked the super clever theme of B.C. Ferries! Why is this super clever? Because EVERYONE has a BC Ferries story or an opinion of BC Ferries! When you are MCing, a theme that everyone can talk about is a GREAT idea! Nadia finished our meeting by having all the speakers work together to issue a modified “thank you for sailing with BC Ferries” announcement to “Thank you for coming to Head Start Public Speaking!” So fun Nadia!
This week we also had our Holiday party so it was fun to munch out on all the goodies brought in to share!
Great speeches this week from Nima, who worked hard on this one and even dressed the part as a young entrepreneur! Also from Noah whose humour continues to shine and whose confidence is getting stronger! And last but never least, Annalisa continued the saga of her not-so-ordinary pet adventures!!!
First week back folks, bring your FAVOURITE speech so far- we will be doing an all-speech, all-evaluation day! Please know your speech and try to do it without notes! ALSO- use the feedback from me and from your evaluator to improve the speech!
Gibsons took this party thing pretty seriously and brought in a TON of food! (Thanks to Sheila and Mark for helping with cleanup!!!!!) We had a great time listening to speeches, playing charades and getting a little crazier! I’m proud of you guys for letting loose a bit and sharing a little more of yourselves with each other!
Our MC this week, for her first time EVER was Ava! MCing is NOT an easy job but Ava was up to the task. We definitely heard her voice more clearly than ever and I could see that Ava was beginning to feel more comfortable with herself by the meeting’s end. This week we discovered that Ava wants to be a dentist because she likes all those cool tools! It’s so fun discovering more about each other and it takes guts to reveal things about ourselves! Great job Ava!
Our speeches were from Nyle, about the Thai Night market, so fascinating to learn about other cultures!
Also, one-of-a-kind Simon with his speech about ‘Change’! I love Simon’s passion!
Iris told us about her passion for BOOKS in her speech ‘Bookworm’. She even book-ENDED her speech with “I am a bookworm”! Way to go Iris!
Bella told us some more about her horses with Christmas with the Horses- boy those horses get some awesome goodies! Bella’s voice was much louder and clearer! Awesome Bella!
And finally, Bridget gave us a Head Start FIRST by giving an impromptu speech! Bridget told us about a sailing trip she took with 2 crazy teenagers. For those of you who think this is easy- WRONG. Bridget, I am super proud of you for stepping outside your comfort zone and delivering!
You too Gibsons, are set to bring in your favourite speech first week back. USE THE FEEDBACK you were given from your evaluator and from me to improve your speech and make it even better than the first time!
I am so proud of you kids and your hard work- you are reaping rewards you don’t even know about yet!
Coming up next year- 2 public presentations!!! Super exciting!!!
ALSO- SEND ME YOUR QUESTIONS FOR RYAN AVERY BEFORE THE HOLIDAYS ARE OVER!!!
I love you guys!!!!
Happy Holidays everyone!!!
